After 29 episodes alone or with guests, I am proud that episode 30 features Kinda Radical's first male guest! Today we are joined by my good friend Nicholas Thurston to talk about the ERA (ratified or not?), Florida politics, and campaign trails all over the country.
We start by giving an update about the ERA in Biden's last few days of presidency, and hoping that it will in fact be added to the constitution soon! Unfortunately, there is little legal evidence to prove that is on the way. We get into the Florida abortion ban where Nick works on democratic campaigns. Finally, Nick shares some of his experiences working on many different campaigns around the country for a range of democratic candidates, what he has learned, and his advice for YOU to stay progressive during the Trump administration.
There has been A LOT of information spread about The ERA and it's updates. In this episode, I shared information which I feel has been thoroughly researched and properly shared to the best of my ability. Here are the sources which I used to gather information: https://www.npr.org/2025/01/17/nx-s1-5264378/biden-era-national-archivist-constitution

Welcome to the last KR episode of 2024!
On this week's episode I am joined by philosopher, professor, social epistemologist, writer/author, traveler, and fantasy's biggest fan: Alex Stamson! Alex joins KR to discuss feminism in pop fiction, specifically in fantasy writing, film, and TV. We explore feminist theories in Game of Thrones such as self erasure, self sacrifice (or not), queerness in fantasy, and the interesting outcomes of assault for women characters. Alex also shares the meaning of world building in fantasy and how, when perpetuating stereotypes, it can cement prejudice. Finally, we talk about teaching gender studies and how that is received in the classroom.
If you are interested in reading more of Alex's work reach out to her here and ask for her publications behind a paywall: alexandra.stamson@uconn.edu
