On this special episode release of Kinda Radical, I'm talking all things braiding. We start with a wide history of braiding that takes us through time and around the globe. We move into specific cultural examples of how braiding can mean more than just a hairstyle; it carries messages, ties you to your ancestors, and demonstrates your heritage and culture. Finally, I explain how braiding is, and will continue to be, political.

On this week's episode of Kinda Radical we are joined by scholar, author, researcher, and professor Benjamin Zeller! 
In 2003 Professor Zeller wrote an article titled We're The Other Catholic Church, Feminism in a Radical Catholic Renewal Community. This article follows the story of Spiritus Christi, a Catholic church in Rochester New York who made waves based on their progressive practices - like having Mary Ramerman become a pastor. Throughout this episode we talk about women's role in the Catholic Church, the representation of clothing in religion and why it played such a symbolic role in this story, and how the church can achieve gender equality in the future.

To end out June we're moving away from our typical gender based conversations. Today KR is joined by Jorge, a cofounding member of The Green Haven Project: a nonprofit garden in Florida focused on diminishing food deserts, educating the community on growing and harvesting, and producing fresh and local fruits and vegetables for free. 
In this episode we talk about how to recognize and then combat food deserts, how children in the community are involved in the garden, favorite foods growing in the garden, and real life stories of impact.
